When the externally visible signs of aging contradict a person´s feelings of youthfulness, the desire arises to influence these changes by means of a facelift. The objective is to regain a younger, fresher appearance. The cheeks become fuller again and the corners of the mouth slightly raised. The region of the lower jaw and neck regain their youthful shape.

In order to avoid any visible signs of a facelift operation, any undue tightening of the skin is dispensed with. We make a point of avoiding any obvious signs of an operation.

During a detailed consultation you can inform us about your wishes, expectations and concerns. It is important that we have information about your state of health and any medication taken regularly in order to assess the risks. We will then analyse your features and assess you as a whole. Then, after a thorough examination, we will inform you in detail about the stages of treatment involved in a facelift and explain the methods used in the operation.

The convalescent and post-operative treatment phases are a decisive factor in the success of the treatment – sufficient time should be scheduled for this.

 

Prior to the operative intervention, blood tests and an electro-cardiogram (ECG) are carried out, a safety measure to ensure that the risk of intervention is not increased by any unfavourable conditions.  On the basis of the tests and the information provided during consultation, the anesthetist will decide which medication you can take regularly. The consumption of alcohol and nicotine should be avoided on the day of the operation and, above all, on the preceding evening.

In order to be able to guarantee the highest possible quality of the operation, we never carry out an operation under time pressure. Thanks to generous scheduling and methods which we have tested over the course of many years, our patients have significantly fewer problems with swelling and discoloration than patients treated with other facelifting methods.

Facelifting is carried out under twilight sedation or a general anesthetic.

The anesthetist is present before, during and after the operation and ensures that no pain is experienced.

We recommend a minimum of one to three nights´ stay in our clinic.

 

The after-effects of a facelift such as swelling or discolouration are reduced to a minimum by cooling the region of the eyes and cheeks immediately after the operation. Pain is not to be anticipated. 

The drainage tubes are removed the morning after the operation. Bandages are only applied in exceptional cases. Your hair can be washed again already. The stitches are removed after six to eight days. After ten to fourteen days the patients are usually able to socialise fully. 

 Sports activities should be avoided in the first two weeks as swelling and a feeling of tension may be experienced. After six weeks all activities can be resumed again without any restrictions.

 In order to support the healing process during this phase, lymph gland drainage treatment carried by a trained physiotherapist or cosmetician once or twice a week may be beneficial. The Fontana Clinic also offers daily oxygen treatments and reflex zone massage.
