Questions about facelifting

Where are the incisions?

The incisions are made in the hairline, in the auditory canal and behind the ear. In most cases they are virtually invisible later.

 What are the risks?

Post-operative bleeding, infection and damage to the nerves may occur. In our clinic we have never had a case of infection or nerve damage.

 Is feeling in the face affected?
Feeling may be affected temporarily. After approximately six weeks feeling has usually returned to normal. In rare cases, this may take up to six months.

Can paralysis occur?

A paralysis of the expressive muscles is theoretically feasible. Any lasting paralysis has never occurred at our clinic.

When will I look good again?

Socialising is normally possible after about 10–14 days.

When can I do sport again?

Unrestricted sports activities are possible after about 6 weeks. 

How long will I stay in the clinic?

2–8 days depending on the scope of the operation.

Can I have a facelift twice?

If a facelift takes the anatomy into consideration, it can be carried out several times.

Are there complications in the healing of the wounds sometimes?

If hygiene measures are followed in the first weeks after a facelift, complications are highly unlikely. In smokers, healing can be restricted or limited.

Should I avoid the sun?
Definitely in the first eight days after a facelift. After that a face cream with a high sun-protection factor should be used.
