Brow lifting (Print version)
Large, open eyes with clearly defined lid folds, unhooded eyelids and a perfect-looking skin are the definition of a young eye region. However, changes occur with age. The shape and position of the eyebrows is an important signal to your surroundings, capable of expressing beauty, youth and feelings, too. With age, the shape and position of the eyebrows changes. They usually sink downwards, particularly at the sides. This makes the eyes look smaller and gives an appearance of excess skin on the eyelids. The open facial expresssion is lost. In many cases, it makes sense to carry out several corrections at the same time: raising the eyebrows, tightening the temples at the sides and, if necessary, correcting the surplus skin on the eyelids. A combination of these various measures creates a harmonious, very natural-looking "open" expression.
Incisions are positioned in the hairline or in the hair and are practically invisible afterwards. In many cases, any incision in the upper lids is then unnecessary or can be reduced to a much smaller extent.
Brow-temple lifting is easily combined with facelifting and leads to a complete, harmonious rejuvenation of the appearance.
Consultation
During a detailed consultation you can inform us about your wishes, expectations and concerns. It is important that we have information about your state of health and any medication taken regularly in order to assess the risks. We will then analyse your features and assess you as a whole. An individual consultation and treatment plan is especially important for corrections to the eyelids and eyebrows, as the ideal position and shape of the eyebrows can vary widely depending on the person, and very varying techniques can be used according to need.
The prime consideration when selecting the method of treatment is the safe avoidance of any complications or difficulties. We devote a generous amount of time to this. Your trust in our treatment and your successful healing is based on total clarity between the doctor and the patient. Following the consultation, we will be able to give you a binding estimate of the costs involved.
Preparation
The convalescent and post-operative treatment phases are a decisive factor in the success of the treatment – sufficient time should be scheduled for this.
During the consultation you will be informed about any pre-operative tests or examinations required. These depend on your age, the extent of the intervention planned and any risks. On the basis of the tests and the information provided during consultation, the anesthetist will decide which medication you can take regularly.
The consumption of alcohol and nicotine should be avoided on the day of the operation and, above all, on the preceding evening.
Operative intervention
Brow lifting is usually carried out under twilight sedation. The anesthetist is present before, during and after the operation and ensures that no pain is experienced and that the experience is as pleasant as possible for you. We recommend a minimum of one nights´ stay in our clinic.
Post-operative treatment
The after-effects of a facelift such as swelling or discolouration are reduced to a minimum by cooling the region of the eyes and cheeks immediately after the operation. Slight pain and a feeling of tension may be experienced, especially the first night after the operation. You will be given appropriate pain-killers.
The forehead bandage is removed on the morning after the operation. Your hair can already be washed again after only a few hours. The stitches are removed after seven to ten days. After ten to fourteen days the patients are usually able to resume normal social activites.
Sports activities should be avoided in the first two weeks as swelling and a feeling of tension may recur. After six weeks all activities can be resumed again without any restrictions.
In order to support the healing process during this phase, lymph gland drainage treatment carried out by a trained physiotherapist or cosmetician once or twice a week may be beneficial.
Our refined skin and scar tissue care programme provides sustainable support for healing.
